Nothing Says Summer Like Nautical - Our 20 Dollar Challenge

I love summer, you don't have to spend more than a minute in the shop to find all things summer. Starfish, Corals and Seahorses fill our jewelry trays and I dream of spending my Sundays on the beach.

I want to introduce everyone to Kim - Kim is amazing, she has been featured in the News Journal and soon to be in Delaware today. She owns Style Savvy with Kim - and her whole thing , much like mine is you don't have to pay a lot to look amazing.

I am going to start sending Kim some challenges. She loves to shop for bargains but she also believes that you can take some fabulous basics and with some accessories create amazing looks.

Here are this month's challenge pieces

Smelly Bag

Was the subject line of email I received last week from a customer that had recently purchase a bag from us.  I hate to say it but once or twice a year we receive an exceptionally smelly bag. I haven't been able to pinpoint the source of the smell but it is foul. Sort of like a big fish was caught, left in the bag then they shipped it overseas to us. We don't notice it in the store because when we process new arrivals things come in so fast and furious that we don't have time to stop and smelly the sparkles. So when I got the email, I knew what the problem was and I also had the solution. I want to share it with you - not because I am worried that you will get a smelly bag from us but sometimes bags get abused. I know that when my girls were little I ruined a few bags with a leaky formula bottle or they dropped something wet and gross in there and I just wanted to give my bag a little defunking.  Here is my pretty much tried and true way to defunk your skunky bag.

Don't Live with a Skunky Smelling Bag

The first step is to Freeze the bag ( and this also works for smelly shoes )  - Place the bag in a brown paper bag. Freezing the bag kills any bacteria that may be living in the purse playing hostess to that awful smell.

Let the bag freeze over night.

In the morning remove the bag. It will most likely be crunchy and you will be shocked at how much moisture will be seen - hang it out to thaw.

Make a mixture of 80 % White Vinegar and water and very lightly mist the bag. DO NOT soak it, just give it a light misting. Let dry. Give it a sniff test.  Repeat if necessary

I have not tried this process on leather, only on synthetic materials but just like anything else, you may want to try a vinegar spot test to make sure the fabrics and materials don't run.

And if all else fails and your bag is just a stinker, maybe it's time that you come and see me at LuLu's !

How to Keep All Your Jewelry Organized!

We've all been there - reaching into your jewelry box to grab those great earrings you love you're in a tangled mess! Well here's a tip I've learned to keep all of my jewelry separated and organized in a cheap, chic way - Use a drawer organizer! I've picked up mine from a K-Mart and it was the best 7.99 I've ever spent! They look just like this one above and come with all of these individual compartments shown. I put all of my studs in one section, my bangel bracelets in another, fill it up and throw it in a drawer - that's it! Simple, easy, chic, inexpensive (Yay!) and works great. You can find these anywhere and they come in all shapes and sizes! Pick the one that suits your style and Viola - You are now Miss Organized!

Are you ready to LuLu online ???

We are so close I can smell it, here is a quick sneak peek of what it will look like !!!

How I do it....

I opened the first LuLu's in April 2005. What a long exciting, nail biting journey it has been. I left a successful technology career after thirteen years because I always new I was destined for something a little more exciting and something where I could use the knowledge that I had gained up until that point to do something for myself. I was tired of making other people successful, it was time to do it on my own. My definition of success is doing something I love, doing it well, trying my best to do good business and in turn it will allow me to support myself and my two young daughters.

Sometimes  I do forget that each week I am honored with having new people come into our little shopping sanctuary. Some find us on Facebook, other people just wander in and some come because they saw an article or work with a LuLu obsessed fashionable friend.

I just wanted to take a few minutes to give everyone a crash course in LuLu. The number one question that I get asked each weekend is " Do you go to New York and get all of your stuff ? " and my answer is mostly No, I do go to New York, I have been there twice in the 7 years LuLu has been around. The truth is, most of the prices that you see in our shop is what is typically considered Wholesale to the Public. Here is a perfect example..

On Ebag right now the are selling the Red Lotus Bag from Mad Bags for 41.60

Mad Style Red Lotus

Available Colors at $41.60

We are currently selling the same bag at LuLu's for 15.99 !!!

And that's not even a Sale Price. It is our everyday LuLu price.

So here is what is really happening at LuLu's and why we are a Three Time Winner of Philly's Hottest Accessories.

I work directly with vendors both stateside and overseas to buy their odds and ends. I always find the easiest explanation as saying, LuLu's is like a little teeny tiny TJ Maxx . I go in after the big buyers from companies like Chico's, Macy's and Express and claim my goods. At  LuLu's I can stock just one of a particular item where as bigger retailers needs a large stock. Their pass overs are truly my treasures and because the manufactures want to close out their lots I can buy things for pennies on the dollar.  The more pennies I have to spend, the more buying power I have, the more goodies for all, so please be a friend of LuLu and share the LuLu love, online, in person anyway you can !

Another great example of how I do what I do is  my legendary Jewelry Boyfriend - he buys back things from stores like Target, Anthro,Ann Taylor and QVC.Items that don't sell ,  items that are customer returns that are in New with Tag condition and overstocks. He usually sells them in large lots to store like Tuesday Morning and other off price retailers but for some reason he and I have a great working relationship and he lets me come to his glorious warehouse and pick thru to find my treasures. That is why you will see Express Headband swith 16.99 price tags on our Dollar Wall. We have Jewelry Boyfriend to thank for that.

The only downside to how we do it is that most items we only have once. You truly need to buy it when you see it because of the way we buy we are not a traditional store that stocks our shelves deep of one style week after week. It also makes it tough for meto sell online because it takes a good chunk of time to get each item online and buy the time I do that, the piece is usually gone.

I always have some old fashion connections, magazine stylists, sales reps, business brokers that contact me to buy the contents from photo shoots, stores going out of business or sales reps samples. Those are usually my most coveted pieces. The ones that really have a super amount of sizzle.

It's truly a " you snooze you lose" experience that has made people line up at our doors on Friday mornings, that is when we are the most stocked, that is when we are usually at our FRESHEST.

And just one more thing, my name isn't LuLu - although I will gladly answer to it, LuLu is really my Chihuahua - but who really wants to shop at a place called " Jill's "  Thank you for supporting me, loving LuLu's like you do and being a kindered accessory obsessed soul mates that keep my life so colorful and have let me stay at Booths Corner this long, if not for you,  I would have to get a real job !!!

xoxo,

Jill aka LuLu

Working on my next article....

My Everyday Outift

My Everyday Outift by Jillian Henenberg Ehrlich featuring rhinestone rings

Here is a little sneak peak of next month's article for the Women's Journal.

I recently read an article about picking one outfit you would wear every day for five days if no one saw you. I picked mine, they change all of the time but if you know me or have been out with me lately you will attest that most of my outfits are a some variety of a black jacket, white tank and capri denim. I can achieve many many looks with those three basic pieces by adding character with the accessories I choose.

Make sure to pick up the June/July issue of the Women's Journal to read more.
